So, it started with Kim, then Deirdre…Christian starting playing on his own and tomorrow we bring Keith into the fold. As long as I have enough beers on hand, I’ll be able to keep them going indefinitely.

A must view if you want to laugh your ass off.

Already have a favorite and the season has just begun.

I am planning a women’s clinic on Mondays from 1-2:30pm at Tumble Brook beginning November 1st and will most likely coach the Avon women’s team on Wednesdays. A new group of guys at TB are interested in playing and hopefully I can help them along.

Tomorrow is my first private paddle lesson of the season and maybe more will come my way. Who knows? One thing is for sure, it’s a tough way to plan your life waiting for calls to come.

     Obviously by my tone, I am frustrated. Not only do I not have any players to teach, I have no one at my level to play with and that’s the part that really sucks!  In order for me to get a good game I have to travel to New Canaan, CT. Ever try that drive in the morning around 7am?…not fun!  New Canaan is a tough place to get to in a reasonable amount of time.

     Some of the strategies I’ve used to “grow the game” include free introductory lessons, lesson series, social mixers, tournaments, fundraisers, flexible leagues for men and women, girls night’s out, free beer….nothing seems to have stuck.  If you read this and have any suggestions for me, please reply. I eagerly await responses but don’t expect anyone to even care.

    The paddlemaven is going to wait and see if anyone calls for lessons or leagues but no more daily emails about whats going on in paddle in Hartford because basically, the answer is NADA!

After the weekend we just had with temperatures in the 70′s, it is now time for tennis.  I’ve got the music cranking, the beers chilling and I’ve been diligently rolling my har tru courts at Tumble Brook.  If anyone would like to hit or have a lesson, please call me in the shop at 860-242-1166.  I’ve got some great new frames you can play test from Babolat, Wilson and Prince. If you’ve got an elbow issue, I have a new racquet from Pro Kennex especially designed to relieve tennis elbow pain.

CLEVELAND, OH

Marina Ohlmuller and Mark Johnson teamed up for their first run at the APTA Mixed Nationals, and after an amazing 3 set final against Aila Main and David Caldwell, they emerged victorious, 6-7, 6-0, 7-5.  There were big momentum swings in the match, as is often the case with paddle, and in the third set they were at one point down 3-0, 40-love with the other team serving. The match was marked with steady play by Marina and Aila, while dazzling display of athleticism from Mark and David enthralled the spectators.

This  is Marina’s third national title. She and husband David won the Husband/Wife Nationals in 2003 and 2005. It’s Johnson’s first.

As for the paddlemaven, she and Juan Arraya lost in a tough 3 set semifinal match to Aila Main and David Caldwell.

Birthday Parties:

Treat your child and his/her friends to a fun birthday party on the tennis courts. Members may include food/beverage for $7.95 per child.
